Set during the Napoleonic Wars, The Man From Denmark follows Christian, a Danish outsider, and Esther. A chance meeting develops into a relationship tested by danger, divided loyalties and the demands of family and war. Beginning in 1805, the series follows their story across several books, encompassing Christian’s arrival, the intrigues of his past, Esther's ambitions and the lives they build together.
Expect sweeping romance, danger and excitement, and an array of interesting characters from near and far.
The author, Ellis, was drawn to write the series by her love of history, shaped in part by her family's naval background. The often wild but beautiful Devon coast and countryside provides an atmospheric background for the series, set during uncertain times and a country at war. Plymouth was a place of ships, prisoners, rumours and smuggling — but also of ordinary lives. This was exactly the kind of landscape in which Ellis wanted Christian and Esther’s story to unfold.
